Announcements, new installations and press coverage — everything MediaINFO Digital Library has published, from our first release to today.

2026

Software improvements

Every part of an item, put right by hand

The item editor is where an archive corrects and completes what processing produced, on every scanned or photographed item: its pages, the zones on them, every recognised word and its place on the page, the articles and the faces.

Software improvements

Your own pages, built from the platform's own blocks

The home page of every installation is put together from blocks — a search box, filters, a timeline, the results. The same blocks build any page an institution wants: a story told from the collection, a browse page for one collection, an entry point wherever readers need one. Nobody writes code.

Software improvements

Find duplicates, and more like this from anywhere

A switch on the browse page turns a listing into its duplicates — the same file imported twice, a rescan, a crop, a copied passage — and a compare panel to decide on. More like this now starts from any photograph, region or article, and the filters keep working inside the neighbours.

Software improvements

Search in your own words

A toggle beside the search box turns it into a question box: describe what you want in plain language and the request becomes a search, with every filter it applied shown as a chip you can remove. Available when licensed.

Software improvements

A newspaper page arrives as its articles

Layout analysis turns a page into its stories — headline, columns, picture and caption held together — each with the order a reader reads it in, in either direction. An article can then be searched, opened, edited, compared, cited and downloaded on its own.

Software improvements

Video by what changes on screen

Stills are taken where the picture actually changes rather than at fixed intervals, and only the frames worth keeping are stored — which is what a picture search matches a video on. A licensed video analysis adds chapters that cover the whole recording, each titled, summarised and seekable.

2025

Events

MediaINFO at AFLI 2025

23rd – 25th November, Doha, Qatar MediaINFO Digital Library took part at the 36th Arab Federation for Libraries and information Conference AFLI 2025 at Multaqa, Education City in…

Software improvements

The same face across the whole archive

Faces are located in images and in video and matched to person records, so a name given once reaches every other appearance. Public-people packs, available in certain countries and regions, label public figures automatically — and the people your team names stay private to your installation.

Software improvements

Reading the page as it was printed

Recognition built for what archives actually hold — newspapers, books, catalogue cards, forms and manuscripts, printed or handwritten, in either reading direction — and coverage can be extended to a hand or a typeface it does not yet read.

Software improvements

Speech becomes a place you can jump to

Audio tracks from video and audio files are transcribed with their timings, so a search that matches a spoken phrase returns the moment it was said rather than the whole recording. The same pass produces the captions and subtitles.

Software improvements

In-place upgrades with automatic rollback

An update is fetched and verified, the installation and its configuration are snapshotted, and the updated system has to pass a health gate and a functional check before the update commits. Any failure before that point rolls the installation back automatically.

Software improvements

Search across languages, from one query

A query typed in one language reaches material written in others: it is matched against the extracted text and against every translated rendition, and the hit is highlighted where it sits on the original page. The passage is marked as a translation, and the original characters never move.

MediaINFO at DAAW 2024

29-30th October 2024, Abu Dhabi, UAE The National Library and Archives organized the Digital Archiving in the Arab World Conference (DAAW|2024) in Abu Dhabi MediaINFO Digital…

Software improvements

Faster re-indexing, and indexing that looks after itself

A search re-index no longer re-analyses text and images that have not changed, and unchanged curated metadata is carried over with them — so a broad re-index costs re-indexing rather than re-analysis. The similarity indexing behind More like this now tops itself up on its own.

Software improvements

Publishing outward: harvesting and structured data

The catalogue is exposed to aggregation networks over the sector's harvesting standard, in Dublin Core and the Europeana Data Model, with sets built from your own browse facets and the same mappings feeding structured data on public pages. Nothing is exposed until an administrator chooses it.

Software improvements

A deep-zoom viewer for every kind of material

Pages, photographs, video, audio, documents and 3D objects open on one surface. Deep zoom is served from the original, with no derivatives cut ahead of time, and two objects can be compared side by side with their panes panning and zooming together.

2023

Software improvements

Dates in two calendars

Dates can be entered, stored, displayed, searched and filtered in both Hijri and Gregorian — with calendar-aware timeline facets, Arabic-Indic and Persian numerals, and a calendar each user chooses for themselves.
