ETERA: from the scanner to the reader, in one university library

Tallinn University Academic Library opened a digitisation centre and an open e-library on the same day. The scanners came from 4DigitalBooks; the library runs on MediaINFO Digital Library.

The library

ETERA

In September 2015 Tallinn University Academic Library opened a digitisation centre and ETERA, its e-library, on the same day. The centre's fully automatic book scanner, a 4DigitalBooks DL 3003 that turns the pages itself, had arrived in March 2012. About a million pages were online at the opening.

ETERA now holds about 220,000 items on some 7.4 million pages: books, periodicals and newspapers, theses since 2005, research collections and the Lotman and Mints archive, with photographs, maps, sheet music and video. Every item with text can be searched in full, more than 720 million words of it. ETERA runs on MediaINFO Digital Library, as its own description says.
